Last summer, students from the Spelman College (Atlanta, USA) made a two-month stay (June-July 2013) at the University of Cordoba (Spain). One of the students worked within the Sustainable Organic Chemistry Research Group on the catalytic valorisation of glycerol. More specifically she used heterogeneous catalysis to i) transform glycerol to 1,2-propanediol through hydrogenolysis and ii) produce hydrogen through photocatalytic treatment of glycerol. The catalysts she used consisted in platinum supported on diverse zinc oxides. | |
