Within the Leonardo da Vinci Programm of the EU, our research group received two Polish graduates of the Warsaw University of Technology. For 6 months, Karolina Kurys and Ewelina Kuna have worked on the photocatalytic application of Au doped TiO2, CeO2 and ZnO catalysts. They learned several characterization techniques for solid photocatalysts such as ICP-MS, EDAX, XRD, TEM, TPD-Pyridine, DRIFT-Pyridine and UV-Vis. The core of their project was to test the photocatalysts, under UV and solar radiation, in the photodegradation of p-Chlorophenol as well as the gas-phase selective photooxidation of 2-propanol to acetone. As for the analytical techniques used for the identification and quantification of intermediates and reaction products, HPLC-DAD, GC and GC-MS techniques were routinely used. Good luck in the future for Karolina and Ewelina. | |
